Our Solution
Vishay Allegany Billet Weighing Systems account for all variables that contribute to cross sectional billet density variations. These include mold abrasion, metal temperature, Ferro static pressure, caster speed, spray cooling water volume, and inconsistencies with the cutting torch "home" position. Our adaptive torch control system compensates for all of these variables before dictating the final cut length of each successive billet.
Installed billet weighing systems typically improve melt shop yield by 0.5% while reduced tailings improve rolling mill yield by 0.5%.
With over 25 systems in operation worldwide, documented Return On Investment (ROI) statistics prove that savings from reductions in shorts and scrap pay for an installed system in less than a year. Manufacturers that installed billet weighing systems in 1987 are still reaping the full benefits today
