What is the PhotoStress® method?
A special strain-sensitive coating is first bonded to the test part. Then, as test or service loads are applied, the coating is viewed through a Reflection Polariscope. The strain in the coated test part is displayed as a colorful pattern. These color patterns immediately reveal the overall strain distribution and pinpoint highly strained areas. With an optical transducer (compensator) attached to the Reflection Polariscope, quantitative strains and stresses can be obtained.

What is PhotoStress® Plus?
A newly designed Reflection Polariscope, the LF/Z-2, incorporates a digital video camera and an interface to a computer allowing visual digital imaging not possible before. An electronic digital compensator attached to the polariscope and PSCalc™ software allow easy measurements of principal strains and stresses. The complete process is easy and simple to learn.
