The stability of an amplifier output is directly related to the stability of its input bias resistors. “Tracking” represents the stability of the resistance ratio(s) of 2 or more resistors. Resistance ratio tracking is influenced by temperature changes generated outside the device, such as rising ambient temperature or heat from other components on the PCB, and from inside the device itself, which results from self-heating due to power dissipation. The best analog design would use a resistor with a very low absolute TCR to minimize the effect of ambient temperature and self-heating.
