VPG and Batenburg Mechatronica Team Up to Meet Local Demand for Authentic Precision Resistors in Alternative Energy Applications
MALVERN, Pa. — Jan. 13, 2015 — Vishay Precision Group, Inc. (NYSE: VPG) today announced that it is teaming up with Netherlands-based electronic components distributor Batenburg Mechatronica to meet the high regional demand for reliable, high-stability foil resistors in alternative energy applications, precision measurement instrumentation, and test equipment for the semiconductor industry. Batenburg Mechatronica will now provide technical knowledge, local support, and quick and convenient access to the whole range of Vishay Foil Resistor (VFR), Alpha Electronics (made in Japan), and Powertron (made in Germany) brand Bulk Metal® Foil and Z1-Foil resistors throughout the Benelux region.
Founded in 1930, Batenburg Mechatronica is still growing as a specialist and distributor of passive components to a wide range of industries, including medical, transport, aerospace, military, industrial, ATE, telecom, audio, and more. For the company's customers, the VFR portfolio offers a variety of resistor configurations and package types, including discrete devices and resistor networks in surface-mount and through-hole (leaded) configurations; customized chip resistor networks; precision trimming potentiometers; and discrete chips for use in hybrid circuits. Built on VFR's unique Bulk Metal Foil technology, the resistive devices provide very low TCR and exceptional long-term stability, even in extreme temperatures up to 240°C. The devices offer a wide range of resistance values, with any value up to six digits within their given range available at any tolerance with no additional cost or lead time effect.

"Analog circuitry in these applications is almost always operating under severe environmental, thermal, and mechanical conditions, and must withstand frequent and extended service by professionals and novices alike. It’s important to remember that stability is a necessary feature for every precise or accurate resistor. The picture is further complicated by tough regulatory restrictions and high consumer expectations. All of these factors have an impact on the design of analog circuits and the requirements for precision resistors."
To meet the high demands of alternative energy applications, Batenburg Mechatronica's offering of VPG solutions includes the VCS1610Z high-precision Z-Foil surface-mount current sensing chip resistor. The device provides low TCR of ±0.2 ppm/°C nominal from -55°C to +125°C, +25°C ref., tolerances to ±0.5%, and load-life stability to ±0.015% at 70°C for 2,000 hours at rated power. Ideal for current measurement in unconventional environmental conditions, the VCS1610Z features PCR (ΔR due to self heating) of 5 ppm at rated power and a four-terminal Kelvin configuration for increased accuracy.
The VCS1610Z offers a power rating of 0.25 W at +70°C, thermal stabilization time of < 1 s (within 10 ppm of steady state value), and resistance range from 0.3 Ω to 10 Ω. The resistor features a rise time of 1.0 ns, with effectively no ringing, short time overload of < 0.005%, current noise of 0.010 μVrms/V of applied voltage (< -40 dB), and a voltage coefficient of < 0.1 ppm/V. Providing the utmost in ESD immunity, the device withstands electrostatic discharges to at least 25 kV for increased reliability, and offers a non-inductive (< 0.08 μH), non-capacitive design.
