Vishay's New Ultra-High-Precision, Surface-Mount Bulk Metal® Z Foil Flip Chip Resistors Are First to Combine Power Ratings up to 750 mW, Long-Term Stability Down to ±0.005 %, and Typical TCR of ±0.2 ppm/°C
MALVERN, Pa. — January 18, 2006 — Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. (NYSE: VSH) today announced the release of the VFCP series of ultra-high-precision, surface-mount Bulk Metal® Z Foil (BMZF) resistors in a flip chip configuration that provides an outstanding power to size ratio. The five new VFCP resistors are the industry's first in a flip chip design to combine high power ratings up to 750 mW at 70 °C with long-term stability down to ±0.005 %, very low typical TCR of ±0.2 ppm/°C, excellent PCR of ±5 ppm typical at rated power, and tight tolerance of ±0.01 %.
These new resistors are designed for applications in which ultra-precise, ultra-stable, ultra-reliable resistors with an extremely low total error budget are required under load and extreme environmental conditions. The wide range of intended end products include automatic test equipment; high-precision instrumentation; laboratory, industrial, and medical equipment; high-end audio gear; electron beam scanning and recording equipment including electron microscopes; and military, space, airborne, and downhole instruments and communications systems. The 35 % space savings realized by using the VFCP series flip chip design over wrap-around designs enables more compact end products.
Vishay's revolutionary BMZF technology provides a significant reduction of the resistive component's sensitivity to ambient temperature variations (TCR) and applied power changes (PCR). This breakthrough level of stability, more than an order of magnitude better than that offered by thin film technology, allows designers to guarantee a high degree of accuracy in fixed-resistor applications.
The VFCP series consists of resistors in five surface-mountable case sizes — 0805, 1206, 1506, 2010, and 2512 — with a range of maximum power ratings from 100 mW to 750 mW and resistance ratings from 10 Ω to 150 kΩ, with even lower and higher resistance values available by request. The resistors achieve excellent load-life stability of ±0.01 % at maximum power, and even greater stability of ±0.005 % at decreased power.

Additional featured specifications include a low thermal EMF of less than 0.05 μV/°C, voltage coefficient below 0.1 ppm/V, inductance lower than 0.08 μH, and response time faster than 1 ns. The noise generated by these resistors is less than -40 dB, or essentially noise-free.
Both lead (Pb)-free and tin/lead alloy terminal finishes are available, and matched resistor sets can be provided by request. Vishay's application engineering department is available to advise customers and make recommendations for non-standard technical requirements and special applications.
Available in waffle-pack and tape-and-reel packaging, samples and production quantities of the VFCP series of resistors are available now. Lead time for production quantities is four to six weeks, and less on request.
